Northern Writers' Awards 2012

If you enjoy writing in your spare time and would like some publicity for your work, and a chance to win a share of the £25,000 cash prize, then why not take part in the Northern Writers' Awards 2012?

The awards exist to "support talented writers to move their work towards publication" and support poets, novelists and prose writers working on children's fiction, biographies or memoirs.

Even if you don't win, you can get a bit more exposure for your work.

All you need to do is submit two copies of...

1. A Letter of application

2. A Synopsis of your book
A summary of the aims and ambitions of your text. For a novel or prose work, it should show the structure of the narrative and explain how the story will be told. For a collection of poetry, the synopsis should detail the scope and themes of the collection.

3. Your work in progress
For prose, send up to 3,000 words, ideally beginning with the first chapter. For poetry, send up to 30 poems.

Deadline for submissions is Friday 20th April, 2012 and full details are available here.

The New Writing North website is contains a wealth of ideas, advice and useful links for anyone wanting to get their work published, get a Literary Agent, apply for bursaries or find out about writing for stage, screen or radio.
